BBM-64
SYNCHRONOUS BASEBAND MODEM

The BBM-64 is a baseband modem for reliable synchronous data communication at speeds ranging from 38.4 to 288Kbps. The modem operates over "normal" 4-wire telephone cable and can be used in point-to-point and multipoint networks. The BBM-64 features CCITT V.54 test loop facilities and is available in either a V.35, X.21 or V.36 interface.

FEATURES
  • Data rates from 38.4 Kbps up to 288 Kbps
  • Available with V.35, X.21 or V.36 digital interfaces
  • Operation distance up to 6 Km at 64 Kbps
  • Ideal for connecting Bridges, Routers, FEPs etc.
  • Automatic line equalization
  • Point-to-point and multipoint applications
  • Anti-streaming
  • Synchronous operation transparent to all codes and protocols
  • Protection against electric discharges
  • High immunity against line disturbances by using advanced signal processing techniques
  • V.54 diagnostics with analogue loop, digital loop and test pattern.

OPERATION

The BBM-64 is a baseband modem for reliable synchronous data communication at speeds ranging from 38.4 to 288 Kbps. The modem operates at distances up to 7 Km over 4-wire unloaded, unconditioned telephone lines or twisted pair cable. The actual distance obtainable for a specific application depends on the data rate and wire diameter used. The BBM-64 makes it possible to interconnect e.g. FEPs, LAN Bridges or Routers and can be used in point-to-point half or full-duplex environments and local multipoint networks. The modem is available in three interface versions, V.35, X.21 or V.36, to suit operation in any kind of environment. The front panel is equipped with LED indicators to display the status of the main interface circuits and also houses push-buttons for activating test loops as well as a test pattern generator. The BBM-64 offers CCITT V.54 diagnostics features, such as Local Analogue Loop (loop 3) and Remote Digital Loop (loop 2). These loops can be activated manually by push-buttons on the front panel or under control of the digital interface. Apart from test loops the BBM-64 includes a test pattern generator and detector (pattern 511) to simulate data traffic over the selected loops or end-to-end. The error detector gives a visual indication of any faults that occur.
